The 2020-21 pandemic created economic disruption and growth in income disparities. These issues contributed to a demographic shift in Sonoma County, and an opportunity for the library to reassess how to move forward as an organization that meets evolving community needs.

A plan to “Reimagine the Library” was inspired by the Harwood Institute method of “turning outward.”

It is valuable to know what community members want from their library, but the Harwood method asked deeper questions, and the answers allow the library to leverage its unique assets and expertise to address broad community needs.
